Cairns Language Centre arranges homestay accommodation for international language students while they are studying abroad in Australia. We are always looking for families to host our international students.
What does it take to be a homestay?
There is no such thing as a typical homestay family. You can be single, a couple, family with kids, or retiree. What is most important is that you are committed to the programme and really care for the students you invite into your home.
When you host a student, they will become a member of your family. Your student will be far away from home, sometimes travelling alone for the first time, and in your care so you will be expected to provide them with a safe, supportive and welcoming home environment.
What do you need to do to become a homestay?
Step 1: Homestay Application
Please read the Homestay Experience Information carefully.
Complete the Homestay Application form. Please ensure that you answer every question.
Step 2: Volunteer Blue Card
For security reasons and as part of our quality insurance, all persons over the age of 18 residing in your home are required to have a valid Blue Card.
Step 3: Submit your forms
If you have a moment please drop the forms into our office. Alternatively you could post or email it back to us.
Step 4: Home visit and interview
Once your application has been assessed, one of our accommodation officers will contact you to arrange a home visit and interview.
We will explain your obligations in more detail, answer any questions that you may have and with your permission, take additional photos of your family and home.
Step 5: You are now ready to host a student!
You will now be accredited as one of our valued home-stays.
Please be patient if we do not contact you immediately. We want every student and family to be fully satisfied by their homestay arrangement. We work hard to match the specific needs and interests of our students with their home-stays.
